Hai my visit to Goa,
I enjoyed the trip to Goa, which was in my places of visit.
When I was in school I used to read stories about Goa, particularly the Portuguese settlement. I was longing to travel and enjoy the fragrance of their culture.
I share some of the pictures on Goa which attracted me lot.
In 1510, the Portuguese defeated the ruling Bijapur sultan Yousuf Adil Shah with the help of a local ally,Timaya. They had the permanent settlement in Velha Goa (or Old Goa). This was the beginning of Portuguese rule in Goa that would last for four and a half centuries, until 1961.
The display board nearby mentions, that the pillar was brought from SanThome, Madras. A Piece of the Iron of the Lance with which St. Thomas the Apostle was supposed to have been killed was preserved in the small niche at the top of the Pillar. On the either side of the Pillar are depicted the Apostle St. Thomas and St. Francis of Assisi. This small shire chapel was made in 1630 AD.
In almost every house in the frontage I saw the Thulasi pot welcoming us, either with Hindu images of gods or Christian cross
